A hazy tapestry of sound that swiftly envelops you and blurs the edges of reality. A ritual descent into trance, amidst the ceaseless whirl of indie rock that draws generously on shoegaze.
Undertow, the new single from German band Neumatic Parlo, was released on 4 September. Today, Negative White is exclusively premiering the crackling video by Emily Schlösser, filmed in early August in Hamburg on two full reels of Super 8.
“Undertow refers to the current implied by the shoegaze ‘wall of sound’. The music video aimed to explore this theme and place the band members within it,” explains the band.
And there’s no question that Undertow sweeps you away: the track is overwhelming, and even singer Vincent Göttler barely stands a chance against the flowing wall of sound. Despite the towering composition, Undertow never feels aggressive—rather, it’s conciliatory. It creates a utopia where you’ll be gently washed away in moments. An existence that is neither past nor future, simply present.
