Last weekend, I fired up the old record player again for the first time in a long time. And realising that I should definitely clean the connectors of my amplifier. But David Lindley’s Win This Record still sounded quite good. (And you should definitely check out this album.)
Then, two days ago, I stumbled across this video by Speeed, trying to compare vinyl vs CD vs streaming. It’s a great introduction to the technical functionalities and the proper equipment. But yeah, it’s basically the same conclusion as always: vinyl is very cool and somehow sounds warmer and more human, but streaming is also very convenient.
Over the past few years, I’ve gathered a small but respectable vinyl collection that, I’ve to admit, collects more dust than rotations on the turntable. Oh damn, am I a phoney hipster now?
The thing is, everyone lauds vinyl as a medium that invites more conscious listening. That might be true, but just because it’s there doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. You still have to show up.
And as long as it’s a conscious decision: Does the medium really matter? What matters is the very active consumption appreciation of the art.

Yesterday, Bonnie Tyler passed away at the age of 75. Maybe give Total Eclipse of the Heart a spin. In 2017, Matthias Hoffmann shot her live at the Rock The Ring Open Air in Hinwil, Switzerland.
And unfortunately, we have also received word of Justin Cary's passing. For 30 years, he played bass with Sixpence None The Richer. The band therefore cancelled all scheduled shows, including the gig in Zurich this fall. Read the full statement here.
