I personally have a fierce opinion on AI in music, at least the generative kind. The models are built on stolen data; there‘s nothing justifiable about it. Nevertheless, this is the reality, and we have to deal with it, as music fans and, by extension, as a society.
Anyway, it would be delusional to find a solution during a roughly 90-minute-long panel, but I wondered about the „Swiss“ sentiment after having experienced some talks around it at SXSW London.
There was a mixture of disillusion and curiosity on the panel „Dance with and around AI“, hosted by the Swiss royalty collecting society SUISA. But also interesting details on the intricate nature of copyright law, provided by Noah Martin, SUISA‘s general secretary and head of their AI taskforce.
