One Month with Qobuz

In this week's roundup: Photos from Openair Gampel, an evening at Musikfestwochen, and testing the "Boomer" of streaming.

Published:

Ever since restarting Negative White in 2023, I have been (and still am) the primary writer. And so, it can sometimes feel like a personal blog. However, that‘s not really the goal. It‘s a platform where anyone can contribute and try out things.

That’s why I’m excited that you will find nothing of my dribble in today’s Roundup.

Instead, you can read ex-Noisey Julian Riegel’s opinion on the French streaming service Qobuz after giving it a go for a month. Or Désirée Bichsel’s report from the gigs of Idles, Chalk, and TTSSFU—illustrated with captivating shots by Evelyn Kutschera. Or click through the photos by Phillip Weiler from Openair Gampel.

Best wishes,

🎧 Qobuz tested

If you were born after 1980, Qobuz might feel like your parents became a streaming platform: still talking about the bands they loved when they were young, struggling to keep up with trends, and adopting digital changes in baby steps.

Julian Riegel has been testing the Paris-based streaming service for one month, breaking it’s features down in his review. There are some definite wins for this Spotify alternative, but also real downsides—especially regarding Swiss music.

Check out the full test report here.

Désirée Bichsel and Evelyn Kutschera found their way to one of the last evenings at Winterthurer Musikfestwochen. An evening that had an absolute banger of a line-up: TTSSFU, Chalk, and Idles. Find the report and galleries of all three gigs here.

Even though his tent was blown away by a gust of wind, our resident photographer Phillip Weiler persisted at Openair Gampel—sleeping under a desk at the openair’s media corner. See his gallery featuring Isabel LaRosa, Die Fantastischen Vier, and many more here.
