It is a significant achievement for the Swiss metal scene, but mainly for the Zurich-based band Expellow. At Wacken Open Air, they stood against 30 other competing acts and performed in the pouring rain. Gudi, Nici, Taz, Moritz and Mik prevailed against intense international competition on 1 August and won over both the audience and the jury.
Expellow were crowned the national winner at the final of the Swiss preliminary round at the Schüür in Lucerne in May. Winning in Wacken not only brings the band financial support from the Wacken Foundation but also worldwide attention in the metal scene. Expellow's success also emphasises the quality and potential of the Swiss metal scene.
