After hours of desperate discussions with myself, today’s Weekly5 has been selected from around twenty tracks, all of which would have been worthy choices. But there is also a certain appeal in scarcity.
And today, we are treated to ethereal psychedelic rock and fantastic ambient folk, as well as bittersweet coldwave, disco-soaked grooves and refreshing pop light-heartedness.
Turquoise Yachting Club – The 2nd’s good
After an extensive journey through bedroom pop and surf rock, Lausanne-based Turquoise Yachting Club are now venturing into post-punk coldwave territory on their latest EP, Overnight Part One. And The 2nd’s good shows just how outstanding that sounds. A gentle anthem with a bittersweet, melancholic melody, broken up by shimmering guitars.

foamboy – Phone
The disco-tinged groove of Phone by Portland’s pop duo foamboy hooks you immediately. Combined with cool synth chords, funky guitar, and Katy Ohsiek’s meandering voice, the track becomes a banger with a message about the invasive nature of our smartphones.

Superweak – Sunny All The Time
Refreshing and short like a cloudburst on a hot summer day, Sunny All The Time, the debut single from Superweak, is a catchy tune that immediately captivates. Carefree, but somehow quirky, it’s a flight of sound into the innocence of the moment.

pôt-pot – 22° Halo
In Krautrock style, the Irish-Portuguese quintet pôt-pot winds its way forward. 22° Halo trots along almost monotonously, conjuring up a psychedelic pull. Minimal shifts in sound become monumental, fluorescent events. Welcome to metaphysical rapture.

Constant Smiles – Time Measured in Moonflowers
It begins and ends in the innocent tenderness of folk music. But in between, constant smiles escalate into electronic-acoustic ambient sounds. Time Measured in Moonflowers defies categorisation and entices listeners to discover more. An unconventional but beautiful piece of sound art.
